Deutsche Bank U.S. Championship

The USA PGA Tour is playing the 2nd leg of the Fedex Cup Playoff this week in Boston with the Deutsche Bank U.S. Championship.

Below is the list of the top 15 players in the CLi rankings for the Deutsche Bank U.S. Championship.

# Player CLi
1 Dustin Johnson   12.70
2 Matt Kuchar  15.05
3 Jason Dufner  15.15
4 Steve Stricker  17.35
5 Jim Furyk  18.60
6 Padraig Harrington  18.90
7 Marc Leishman  23.05
8 Retief Goosen  24.25
9 Kevin Streelman  26.65
10 J.J. Henry  27.55
11 Jason Day  28.60
12 Martin Laird  29.75
13 Charlie Wi  30.30
14 Justin Leonard  31.05
15 Sean O'Hair  31.65

I am going to stick with the top 5 in the CLi rankings: Johnson, Kuchar, Dufner, Stricker, and Furyk.

Dufner is an interesting pick when looking at these 5 players since his world ranking is the losest of the 5. As well, he missed the cut last week at the Barclays Classic. Then on top of that, picking Dufner is especially interesting when Padraig Harrington is in 6th position in the rankings. Harrington's CLi (18.90) is not much different than the Cli values of the first 5 players in the list. However, in the two instances that Dufner has played the Deutsche Bank event, he has missed the cut in the preceeding tournaments and has finished 2nd and 37th. Both times he made the cut, so it seems that he likes this course. Thus, I am going to stick with him as a pick this week rather than dropping him for Harrington.

Below are my 5 picks for the Deutsche Bank U.S. Championship :

Wyndham Championship

I am back from my travels, but am still behind schedule on things I am responsible for doing. So I am late in this week's posting, but am able to post a normal entry as opposed to an abbreviated posting like the previous 2 weeks.

The USA PGA Tour is in North Carolina this week to play Wyndham Championship in Greensboro.

Below is the list of the top 15 players in the CLi rankings for the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro .

# Player CLi
1 Carl Pettersson   3.7
2 Fred Couples  7.6
3 J.J. Henry  10.3
4 Jeff Maggert  13.5
5 Michael Letzig  14.0
6 Jonathan Byrd  15.2
7 Brandt Snedeker  17.3
8 Bob Estes  18.1
9 Greg Chalmers  19.3
10 Garrett Willis  19.7
11 Matt Bettencourt  19.8
12 Ryan Moore  21.4
13 Marc Leishman  22.4
14 Dean Wilson  22.4
15 Boo Weekley  23.1

I am going to pick Pettersson, Henry, Maggert, Byrd, and Snedeker. Pettersson won this tournament in 2008 and has only missed the cut once in the 7 times he has played the tournament since 2003. Henry has played well and consistent over the past 4 tournaments, placing no worse then 36th with a 2nd place finish last week at Turning Stone. Maggert has not played too well over the past month. But he has played well in this tournament. Byrd is from the Carolinas and likes playing in this area of the country. As well, he has played well leading up to this tournament this week. Snedeker placed 2nd last week in Turning Stone and has placed no worse than 36th in the past 4 tournaments he has played in. He missed the cut last year at this tournament. But the prior 3 instances of this tournament he placed no worse than 27th. Let's see if he gets back on track at this tournament this week with those sort of finishes.

I passed over Couples and Letzig. Couples is the tough player to pick in the top 5 players. He has played very well on the senior tour, and he placed 5th last year in Greensboro. But he has been irradicate in the tournaments he has played in on the regular tour. So this pulls me to pass over him this week. I passed over Letzig because he withdrew from the tournament last year and missed the cut at Turning Stone last week. He was playing well prior to Turning Stone. But his 102nd finish in the Turning Stone last week could carry over this week in the form of a lower confidence level.

I wanted to pick Estes as he is making a come back with his game. He has been playing well leading up to this tournament, and has played well in this tournament the previous 3 times he has played in the tournament. However, I couldn't come to terms in removing any of the 5 players that I had picked before reaching Estes in the list. So he is not included in my picks.

Below are my 5 picks for the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro :

1 Carl Pettersson   3.7
2 J.J. Henry  10.3
3 Jeff Maggert  13.5
4 Jonathan Byrd  15.2
5 Brandt Snedeker  17.3

Greenbrier Classic

The USA PGA Tour heads to the fame Greenbrier Resort in Virgina to play the inaugural Greenbrier Classic.

Below is the list of the top 15 players in the CLi rankings for the Greenbrier Classic .

# Player CLi
1 Carl Pettersson   1.50
2 Charlie Wi  2.50
3 Charley Hoffman  5.50
4 Brendon De Jonge  6.25
5 Jeffrey Overton  7.50
6 Jeff Maggert  7.75
7 Dean Wilson  8.00
8 Garrett Willis  8.50
9 Matt Bettencourt  9.75
10 Greg Chalmers  9.75
11 Matthew Jones  11.25
12 Matt Kuchar  13.50
13 John Merrick  13.50
14 Michael Letzig  14.00
15 Bob Estes  17.50

In looking at this week's top 5 players in the CLi rankings, they look rather good. As well, the CLi did last week with the top 5. Both last week's tournament (RBC Canadian Open) and this tournametn are new courses for the players, which makes the CLi patterns possibly similar between these two tournaments. So I am going to go make it easy on myself and go with the top, and then get back to studying for comps. Enjoy the tournament.

Below are my 5 picks for the Greenbrier Classic :

# Player CLi
1 Carl Pettersson   1.50
2 Charlie Wi  2.50
3 Charley Hoffman  5.50
4 Brendon De Jonge  6.25
