A second week in a row where I won the earnings category, but lost the overall tournament. The missed cuts category is doing me in at the moment, as several of the players I pick can't seem to stay above the cut line.

HP Byron Nelson Championship

This week the US PGA Tour stays in my native state of Texas, but travels half-way across the DFW metroplex to Las Colinas to play the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Below is the list of the top 15 players in the CLi rankings for the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

# Player CLi
1 Jason Day  1.55
2 Rory Sabbatini  6.35
3 Brian Gay  15.70
4 Carl Pettersson  19.60
5 Brett Wetterich  21.15
6 Charlie Wi  21.45
7 John Senden  22.75
8 Charley Hoffman  23.75
9 Brian Davis  25.80
10 K.J. Choi  26.80
11 Greg Chalmers  29.85
12 Ben Crane  30.45
13 Blake Adams  34.15
14 Rod Pampling  34.25
15 Fredrik Jacobson  34.30

Two players have CLi figures under 10: Day (analysis) and Sabbatini (analysis). So those two players are no-brainers to pick.

For my next two picks, I will stick with the next two players in the CLi rankings: Gay (analysis) and Pettersson (analysis).

For my fifth pick, I will skip over Wetterich (analysis) since his good finishes recently have been on the Nationwide Tour rather than the big tour. So even though he has won here at the Nelson, I am going to skip over him and pick Wi (analysis). Their CLi figures are very similar, and Wi has finished well in recent tournaments on the big tour -- 2nd last week at the Colonial in nearby Fort Worth.

Below are my 5 picks for the HP Byron Nelson Championship :

# Player CLi
1 Jason Day  1.55
2 Rory Sabbatini  6.35
3 Brian Gay  15.70

Crowne Plaza Invitational

This week the US PGA Tour is back in my native state of Texas. This time it is to play the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial in Fort Worth.

Below is the list of the top 15 players in the CLi rankings for the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.

# Player CLi
1 Jason Day  11.60
2 Zach Johnson  11.95
3 Pat Perez  13.00
4 David Toms  17.15
5 Scott Verplank  17.65
6 Ben Crane  18.85
7 Brian Davis  20.00
8 Tom Lehman  21.70
9 Stewart Cink  21.75
10 Tim Herron  25.45
11 Kevin Na  27.65
12 Ricky Barnes  28.80
13 Brandt Snedeker  29.95
14 Matt Kuchar  30.00
15 Steve Marino  30.15

There are no players with a CLi figure less than 10; nor is there a player with a CLi figure that is much different than any of the other players.  So there is not a clear favorite this week.

However, as with last week, I am going to stick with the CLi rankings for the most part and pick the first 4 players in the CLi rankings: Day, Johnson, Perez, and Toms.

Day (analysis) has finished in the top 10 in the last 3 tournaments he has played in, including a 2nd in the Masters in early April. In addition, he has a 4th place finish in this tournament back in 2009.

Johnson (analysis) won this tournament last year and has a 6th place and a 12th place finish the past 30 days.

Perez (analysis) has finished in the top 10 in this tournament the last 3 times he has played this tournament (in 2010, 2008, and 2007). In addition, he has two 6th place finishes in the past 30 days.

Toms (analysis), who lost in a playoff last week at the PLAYERS Championship, has been playing well of late. He has finished in the top 25 in his past 5 starts. Since 2000, he he not missed a cut at this tournament and has placed in the top 10 four times.

As for my fifth pick, I am going to skip over Verplank and pick Crane.

Verplank (analysis) plays courses like Colonial well, has been playing well lately, and is playing in his native state of Texas (although, he has lived in Oklahoma since his college days at OSU). However, Crane (analysis) has a similar CLi figure as Verplank. He plays Colonial well and has been playing well lately. Then to top it off, he lives just north of the DFW area...so he will be sleeping in his own bed this week and eating home-style cooking.  That should help him.

Below are my 5 picks for the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial :

# Player CLi
1 Jason Day  11.60
2 Zach Johnson  11.95
3 Pat Perez  13.00
4 David Toms  17.15
5 Ben Crane  18.85

I should have picked Toms this week, who pulled through for me last week at the Wells Fargo Championship. As well, I should have gone with Garcia, who had a wonderful final round today (65) to get him 8-under and a share of 12th place.  But there is no use to "Monday Quarterback" as that will not change the results.

PLAYERS Championship

This week the US PGA Tour is in the city of the tour's headquarters, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, to play the tour's flagship event, the PLAYERS Championship.

Below is the list of the top 15 players in the CLi rankings for the PLAYERS Championship.

# Player CLi
1 Phil Mickelson  5.35
2 Luke Donald  17.40
3 Matt Kuchar  17.45
4 Ben Crane  18.15
5 Sergio Garcia  18.95
6 Brandt Snedeker  19.55
7 Jim Furyk  23.85
8 Tim Clark  26.45
9 Greg Chalmers  29.45
10 Tiger Woods  30.55
11 K.J. Choi  30.85
12 Jason Dufner  32.70
13 J.B. Holmes  33.50
14 Pat Perez  33.70
15 Jonathan Byrd  35.50

I am going to go with the first 4 players in the CLi rankings: Mickelson, Donald, Kuchar, and Crane.

Mickelson (analysis) seems like a clear favorite based upon his CLi figure compared to the next players in the list. His CLi figure is below 10 and is almost 12 points ahead of the next player's CLi figure.

Donald (analysis), Kuchar (analysis), and Crane (analysis) are playing well leading up to the tournament and have played well in this tournament in the past couple of years.

As for my fifth pick, I am skipping over Garcia and Snedeker to pick Furyk.

In the 10 times he has played in the tournament, Furyk (analysis) has only missed the cut once in this tournament since 2000 and has placed in the top ten 3 times (best finish is 3rd in 2006). After a slow start in the first couple of tournaments this year, his worst finish has been 49th place (at Doral). In his last 8 tournaments, his average finish has been 26th, with one top 10 (in the Arnold Palmer Invitational).

Garcia has similar results as Furyk. Garcia (analysis) has won here in the past (in 2008), has only missed the cut twice in this tournament since 2000 (has played the tournament 11 times), and has been playing solid golf the past 4 weeks or so. So it was a difficult choice between Garcia and Furyk. However, the difference is that this tournament is basically a "home game" for Furyk since he lives in Ponte Vedra Beach. In addition, it is his birthday this week...he turns 41 on Thursday (May 12th). Hopefully the birthday celebration will be a catalyst to a good finish and not a distration. :-)

As for Snedeker (analysis), he has played well 3 of the past 4 tournaments he has played in, including a win at The Heritage. However, he missed the cut in his last tournament, the Zurich Classic.

Below are my 5 picks for the PLAYERS Championship :

# Player CLi
1 Phil Mickelson  5.35
2 Luke Donald  17.40
3 Matt Kuchar  17.45
4 Ben Crane  18.15
