Buick Open

This week I am without the Golf CLi as I am in the process of moving servers for the Golf Cli site (and other sites that I own / manage). So with the US PGA Tour rolling into Flint, Michigan to play what some say is the last Buick Open, Paul and I are on a level playing field in terms of making picks. We are both without a tool to make out picks.

On top of that, since I am traveling and I am working on a small computer and it is late in the evening on Wednesday (the day before the tournament starts), I am going to make this posting brief.

I have 6 players that I am interested in for the Buick. They are tiger Woods, Woody Austin, Jim Furyk, Brian Gay, Brandt Snedeker, and Kevin Na. Since I am only able to make 5 picks, I am going take out Gay.

Below are my picks for the Buick Open:

  • Tiger Woods
  • Woody Austin
  • Jim Furyk
  • Brandt Snedeker
  • Kevin Na

Below are Paul's picks for the Buick Open:

  • Tiger Woods
  • Jim Furyk
  • Woody Austin
  • Brian Gay
  • Rod Pampling

Paul and I have 3 players in common this tournament: Woods, Furyk, and Austin.

Hopefully, I will have the Golf CLi web site up and running again by next week.

RBC Canadian Open Review

It is now time to review the picks for the RBC Canadian Open to see how the results turned out.

Here are the results of the Tour Outsider (my) picks.

  • 1 Anthony Kim | 3 | $295,800
  • 2 Brandt Snedeker | 5 | $186,150
  • 3 Bo Van Pelt | 65 MC (MDF) | $10,251
  • 4 Jerry Kelly | 5 | $186,150
  • 5 Retief Goosen | 2 | $550,800

This week was very good. 4 out of my 5 picks were in the top 5. Goosen missed out in the playoff to win the tournament, leaving him with the 2nd place price. The lone player that was not in the top 5, Van Pelt, placed 65th and was MDF, which is essentially a missed cut in my books.

Here are the results for Paul's picks.

  • 1 Matthew Goggin | 141 MC | $0
  • 2 Mike Weir | 24 | $40,363
  • 3 Matt Bettencourt | 144 WD | $0
  • 4 Aaron Baddeley | 144 WD | $0
  • 5 Steve Marino | 144 WD | $0

Paul had a tough week with 3 of his picks deciding to withdraw.

Here is the comparison of the results for our picks.

Tour Outsider Paul Ginn Winner
Total Earnings $1,229,151 $40,363 TI
Avg Rank 16.0 119.4 TI
Made Cut 4 1 TI
Outcome -- -- TI

The Total Earnings category was won by the Tour Insider.

The Avg Rank category was won by the Tour Insider.

The Tour Insider won Made Cut category for the clean sweep of all three categories.

This tournament overall was won by the Tour Insider.

The overall results between the Tour Outsider and Paul is 3 wins to the Tour Outsider, 0 wins to Paul, and 0 draws.

RBC Canadian Open

[ Updated with Paul's Picks, 2009-07-22 21:00 PM ]

The US PGA Tour moves north of the border to play the RBC Canadian Open.

Below is the list of the top 15 players in the CLi rankings for the RBC Canadian Open.

# Player CLi
1 Anthony Kim 5.20
2 Brandt Snedeker 7.60
3 Bo Van Pelt 15.35
4 John Mallinger 15.95
5 Jerry Kelly 17.45
6 Retief Goosen 19.95

11 Camilo Villegas 33.50
12 Kevin Na 34.05
13 Bubba Watson 34.90
14 Ryan Palmer 36.25
15 Greg Chalmers 36.45

I am going to go with the first 3 players in the CLi rankings: Kim, Snedeker, and Van Pelt. Then I am going to skip over Mallinger....even though he plays well at this event. I think the next two players, Kelly and Goosen, are playing well and I want to pick them. Therefore, Mallinger was left out of my picks. My final two picks are Kelly and Goosen.

Below are my 5 picks for the RBC Canadian Open:

# Player CLi
1 Anthony Kim 5.20
2 Brandt Snedeker 7.60
3 Bo Van Pelt 15.35
4 Jerry Kelly 17.45

US Bank Championship of Milwaukee Review

It is now time to review the picks for the US Bank Championship of Milwaukee to see how the results turned out.

Here are the results of the Tour Outsider (my) picks.

  • 1 Brett Quigley | 36 | $18,433
  • 2 Jerry Kelly | 3 | $272,000
  • 3 Jeff Sluman | 18 | $50,400
  • 4 Chris Riley | 7 | $104,250
  • 5 Nick O'Hern | 31 | $23,720

The highlight for the picks for this tournament is that I had two players finish in the top 10 (Kelly and Riley) and all 5 players made the cut. It is always good to see all the picks make the cut and finish in the money.

Here are the results for Paul's picks.

  • 1 Glenn Day | 36 | $18,433
  • 2 Jerry Kelly | 3 | $272,000
  • 3 Kevin Na | 7 | $104,250
  • 4 Matt Bettencourt | 96 MC | $0
  • 5 Mark Wilson | 31 | $23,720

Here is the comparison of the results for our picks.

Tour Outsider Paul Ginn Winner
Total Earnings $468,803 $418,403 TI
Avg Rank 19.0 34.6 TI
Made Cut 5 4 TI
Outcome -- -- TI

The Total Earnings category was won by the Tour Insider.

The Avg Rank category was won by the Tour Insider.

The Tour Insider won Made Cut category for the clean sweep of all three categories.

This tournament overall was won by the Tour Insider.

The overall results between the Tour Outsider and Paul is 2 wins to the Tour Outsider, 0 wins to Paul, and 0 draws.

This tournament showed a little better results for our picks as compared to the British Open. This is good to see.

British Open Review

It is now time to review the picks for the British Open to see how the results turned out.

Here are the results of the Tour Outsider (my) picks.

  • 1 Tiger Woods | 74 MC | $5,212
  • 2 Steve Stricker | 52 | $18,303
  • 3 Jim Furyk | 34 | $38,276
  • 4 Retief Goosen | 5 | $255,713
  • 5 Ian Poulter | 147 MC | $3,420

Two of my picks missed the cut (Woods and Poulter), both of which were a surprise. Woods "never" misses a cut, and Poulter had been playing well leading up to the tournament. Stricker and and Furyk played decenter. Goosen was the shining star in my 5 picks, placing 5th.

Here are the results for Paul's picks.

  • 1 Tiger Woods | 74 MC | $5,212
  • 2 Tim Clark | 85 MC | $4,316
  • 3 Sergio Garcia | 38 | $31,190
  • 4 Geoff Ogilvy | 145 MC | $3,420
  • 5 Padraig Harrington | 65 | $16,206

Here is the comparison of the results for our picks.

Tour Outsider Paul Ginn Winner
Total Earnings $320,924 $60,344 TI
Avg Rank 62.2 81.4 TI
Made Cut 3 2 TI
Outcome -- -- TI

The Total Earnings category was won by the Tour Insider.

The Avg Rank category was won by the Tour Insider.

The Tour Insider won Made Cut category for the clean sweep of all three categories.

This tournament overall was won by the Tour Insider.

The overall results between the Tour Outsider and Paul is 1 win to the Tour Outsider, 0 wins to Paul, and 0 draws.

The British Open is a difficult tournament to pick. So hopefully the next couple of tournaments will show better results for the both of us.
