Tour Outsider: AT&T National

This week the US PGA Tour visits the D.C. area for the AT&T National, which is hosted by Tiger Woods. Even though Tiger won't be playing because he is out for the season after his knee surgery, he will be watching the tournament on TV....from the comforts of his couch.

Let's look at the Golf CLi and see who the top 15 players are for the tournament ranked by the CLi figure.

Rank Player CLi
1 S Ben Crane 8.80
2 S Nick O'Hern 16.95
3 S Robert Allenby 17.40
4 S Hunter Mahan 17.40
5 S Rocco Mediate 18.40
6 S Alexander Cejka 19.60
7 S Rod Pampling 19.75
8 S Paul Goydos 20.50
9 S Tim Herron 21.85
10 S Anthony Kim 24.35
11 S Tom Pernice Jr 24.40
12 S Stuart Appleby 24.50
13 S Steve Elkington 24.70
14 S Jeff Quinney 24.70
15 S Michael Allen 25.05

After a week off (because of travels), I am thinking about picks again.

This week, I will going to do something I normal do not do, and that is to pass over someone that has a CLi less than 10. Ben Crane has a CLi of 8.80 and he plays well on this course. However, I don't want to risk him pulling out at the last minute (i.e. a WD).

So I am going to pass over Crane and then pick the next 3 players (O'Hern, Allenby and Mahan). Then I will drop down the list a little and pick Kim and Pernice. I can see Kim playing well this week because he wants to impress Tiger ...as this is Tiger's hosted tournament. And then for Pernice, even though he did miss the cut at the Buick last week, has been playing well the last couple of months.

So the Tour Outsider picks for the AT&T National are:

Rank Player CLi
1 S Nick O'Hern 16.95
2 S Robert Allenby 17.40
3 S Hunter Mahan 17.40
4 S Anthony Kim 24.35
5 S Tom Pernice Jr 24.40

The Tour Insider's (Dave Shedloski) picks are:

We have 2 players in common in this tournament: Mahan and Allenby.

  1. Hey John,

My brother and I are in a fantasy golf league where you pick a player each week and cannot pick the same player twice in a season. We really enjoy this website and use it as a resource for making our picks. This week, we are picking Steve Stricker. Two other picks that we discussed are Weir and Pampling. And, I like Mahan and Kim.

    Thanks again for this webiste,

  2. Baummer, thanks for the post. Stricker has played well in this tournament the past two years (2nd place finishes). However, he has been struggling of late. So it will be interesting to see if he can kick it into high gear this week and play well in the nation's capital.

I wanted to put my 5 in, but, forgot...maybe next week.

    Keep up the good work.

  4. E, Thx. It is always nice after 2 rounds to have 3 of my 5 picks in the top 5 and all 5 picks make the cut. Hopefully they will keep up the good work through all 4 rounds.

I look forward to seeing your picks in the future. Thanks for the post.
